Here are the five things you need to know this Thursday: election buzz is building with speculation that it could be called as soon as this upcoming weekend; a piece of an airplane wing has been found on an island in the Indian Ocean with officials saying it belongs to the same type of plane as the missing flight MH370; anti-ISIS coalition officials are meeting in Quebec City today to discuss progress in the campaign; strong criticism has been levelled at an Ohio cop charged with murder; and a drug known as the "abortion pill" has been approved by Health Canada.

Plus, today we have #LifeHack tips and tricks on how to rid your kitchens of those pesky fruit flies.

1. Election 2015: Prime Minister Stephen Harper could call an election as early as this long weekend, triggering one of the longest federal campaigns in Canadian history. The Elections Act requires a campaign to be a minimum of 36 days, but there’s no set maximum. If the writ is dropped this weekend, it would mean 11 weeks of campaigning. The speculation comes as an exclusive poll commission by CTV News shows two out of three voters want change and that Stephen Harper’s position as most trusted leader is falling.

2. MH370 breakthrough? A piece of airplane wing found on a French island in the Indian Ocean belongs to the same Boeing model as that of missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370, a U.S. official said Wednesday. If the debris turns out to be from MH370, it will be the first confirmation that the plane crashed into the Indian Ocean after it vanished on March 8, 2014, with 239 people on board.

3. Anti-ISIS coalition meeting: Officials from 20 countries are gathering today in Quebec City to discuss the fight against Islamic State militants. Foreign Affairs Minister Rob Nicholson will attend the meeting, which will be co-presided by Canada, the United States and Iraq.

4. Criticism levelled at Ohio cop: Officials in Cincinnati have levelled strong criticism after an University of Cincinnati police officer as indicted on murder charges. Officer Ray Tensing had pulled over Samuel DuBose for not having a licence plate on the back of his car on July 19. A video of the confrontation appears to show Tensing shoot DuBose.

5. Abortion pill approved: Health Canada has given its approval for Canadians to use a drug known as RU-486, more commonly known as the "abortion pill." The pill will be sold under the brand name Mifegymiso in Canada.
