MONTREAL - A father and his daughter were killed after their motorcycle slammed into a car that stopped to let a duck cross the highway.

Quebec provincial police said Monday they are still investigating the crash that also sent the man's wife to hospital.

Sgt. Richard Gagne said the woman's injuries are serious.

He said charges could be laid in the case but he was not specific, saying only that it's illegal to stop on the highway in Quebec.

"In one or two weeks, we'll submit a report to the Crown prosecutor for a decision," he said.

Gagne identified the victims as Andre Roy, 50, and his 16-year-old daughter Jessie. Both of them were on the same motorcycle and the injured woman was riding on a separate one.

Both motorcycles hit the rear of the car around 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

The driver of the car was not injured.

"The woman driver of the car stopped because they have a duck walking on the road," Gagne said.

Gagne said road conditions were good.
